Shilpa Gulati



Shilpa is an experienced engineering leader with over 15 years of experience in building and scaling teams to solve complex problems in Robotics using state-of-the-art technologies.

Shilpa is currently the Director of Safety and Compliance for Onboard Software at Waymo. She serves on the Safety Steering Committee as part of Waymo’s Safety Governance framework to ensure that Waymo continues to meet high standards of safety as its service expands across more cities. She also leads Waymo’s Road Rule Compliance program to ensure that the Waymo Driver understands applicable Road Rules and behaves in a way that complies with them.

Previously, she was the Director of Behavior Prediction at Waymo. In this role, she led the team responsible for building the AI/ML algorithms to predict the behavior of other road users—a critical component of the onboard software that drives Waymo’s autonomous vehicles. Before Waymo, Shilpa led teams to solve Planning and Prediction for Autonomous Vehicles at Nuro and Apple. Shilpa holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
