Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty



Dr. Aty is a Trustee Chair at University of Central Florida (UCF). He is a Pegasus Professor and the Chair of the Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering Department. He is leading the Future City initiative at UCF and introduced in 2019 the first MS degree in Smart Cities. He is well recognized in work and research in real-time safety, Proactive traffic management, and Connected Vehicles. Dr. Abdel-Aty has managed 75 research projects, and published more than 700 papers, 370 in journals, Google Scholar citations more than 22,500 H-Index 80. Dr. Abdel-Aty is the Editor Emeritus of Accident Analysis and Prevention, the premier journal in safety. He is a member of the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL). He is a Fellow of both ASCE and ITE. He is the Chair of the ASCE Transportation Safety Committee. Dr. Aty has received the TRB 2020 Roy W. Crum Distinguished Service Award, National Academies, NSC Distinguished Service to Safety Award, Francis C. Turner award from ASCE. He has also received the 2019 ITE Transportation Safety Council Ricker Award and the Lifetime Achievement Safety Award from ARTBA in 2019. He has also received multiple International awards including the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award, London 2019.
